Introduction
¡¡¡¡Professor Gang YU received his BS in organic chemistry from Nanjing
University in 1986, his MS in environmental chemistry from Nanjing
University in 1989 and his PhD degree in Environmental Chemistry in Research
Centre for Eco-environmental Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Sciences in
1992. After his PhD education, he joined the Department of Environmental
Engineering, Tsinghua University as a lecturer in 1992 and became Associate
Professor in 1994. As a visiting scholar, he worked in Department of Civil
Engineering, University of Newcastle in UK from January 1997 to January
1998. He got full professor position in Tsinghua University in August of
1998. He has served as vice Chair of Department of Environmental Science and
Engineering from December of 1994 to April of 2006. Now he is the Chair of
this Department.

¡¡¡¡His research interests include physico-chemical treatment technologies of
water and wastewater (such as photocatalytic oxidation, flocculation and
adsorption), environmental behavior and degradation mechanism of persistent
organic pollutants (POPs), environmental functional materials such as
flocculant, catalyst and absorbent, as well as environmental analysis and
monitoring. He was the author or co-author of about 10 books and 150
scientific papers. He got the National Science and Technology Improvement
Award in China twice.

¡¡¡¡Professor Yu is the Co-chair of BAT/BEP Experts Group of POPs Convention
Secretariat (UNEP), Deputy Director of the Environmental Chemistry
Commission, the Chinese Chemical Society, Member of the Standing Committee
of the Chinese Chemical Society, and Member of the Standing Committee of the
Chinese Environmental Sciences Society.
