WANG Baozhen¡¯s Resume


¡¡¡¡WANG Baozhen£¬Male, born in April 10th , 1932, in Qingdao, Shandong Province. He was graduated from Department of Civil Engineering, Harbin University of Technology in 1955. Now he is working at this university as Professor and Supervisor for Ph.D. and Postdoctoral studies; Member (Academician) the International Water Academy (2002-); Sub-Committee Member on Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineering, China National Academic Degree Commission under State Council (1985-2002); Governing Board Member, International Water Association (IWA,1985-2005); Non-member Advisor on Water and Wastewater Treatment, American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE, 1986-1995); Member, Editory Committee on WHO guidelines on Water Supply and Sanitary Engineering in Cold Region (1988-1990); Member, International Advisory Committee of IWA Journal ¡°AQUA-Water Research and Technology¡±(2000-)
¡¡¡¡Main Academic Activities and Achievements:£º1, He took the lead internationally to research and develop the Ecological Wastewater Treatment and Utilization Systems (EWTUS) and Eco-ponds, and has designed, built and put into operation of some 20 EWTUS and eco-pond projects in China for municipal and industrial wastewaters with a total treatment capacity of 1¡Á106 m3/d, which have effectively control the local pollution to water courses; 2, He took the lead to carry out the research and development of integrated pollution control of heavy polluted streams, and has put into engineering practice in some streams in Shenzhen; 3, He has researched and developed the hybrid SBF(submerged biofilm)-AS (activated sludge) process, or called HYBFAS process, which has the advantages of low capital and O/M costs, energy saving, high performance and low sludge production, and has been applied to design, build and operate more than 20 municipal and industrial wastewater treatment plants with a total treatment capacity of 500,000m3/d; 4, He has researched, developed and put into engineering practice of high- efficiency ozone contactor-biological activated carbon (BAC), membrane separation, ClO2 and UV disinfecting for advanced drinking water purification, and has designed, built and put into operation of 12 advanced drinking water treatment plants with a total treatment capacity of 200,000m3/d serving 1 million residents with safe and high quality potable water.

¡¡¡¡In addition, he has been invited as principal advisor to chair numerous meetings to appraise the planning, feasibility study, design of wastewater treatment projects and river basin pollution control projects in Beijing, Guangzhou, Heilongjiang, Harbin, Shenzhen, etc.,. He was also invited as visiting professor or scholar to visit many universities and research institutions in the U.S., Germany, England, Japan, Hong Kong China and gave lectures and seminars there..

¡¡¡¡He has supervised and guided 6 postdoctoral students, 61 Ph.D. students and 78 graduate students for MS degree, of whom 12 have promoted to full professors and supervisors for Ph.D. studies, over 20 associate professors. He has authored or co-authored 16 books and published some 350 papers, of which over 100 papers are in English. He was awarded as China National Outstanding researcher in 1996, and awarded as Provincial and Ministry Outstanding researchers several times in 80s¡¯ and 90s¡¯.
